For more information please see the disclaimer and privacy policy. November flew by, faster than I was expecting, but that tends to happen this time of year. There are a couple of flops on the list this month but as usual, it’s mostly favs. Spoiler alert, I did manage to get my hands on The Eras Tour book and The Anthology cd. That wasn’t the only shopping I did through the month, keep reading to learn of all my fun finds. •insta link and pal – I am actually obsessed with this little gadget! I love that I have the option now to take this when I travel instead of the big clunky camera. I can easily throw this little thing in my purse or even belt bag, that’s how little it is! And the mini link is the perfect way to print the photos when I’m ready. I’m on my 3rd instax camera now, I love them so much. I hope to continue adding to my polaroid bowl for years to come. •Sephora sale – It’s that time of the year again! Sephora’s VIB sale!!! Here’s a review of everything I snagged: Lip liners from Patrick Ta and Makeup Forever, Fenty Beauty blush, Gisou lip oil, Makeup By Mario eyeshadow palette, Patrick Ta lipstick and eyeshadow, Summer Fridays travel kit. Unfortunately, here’s where my flop comes into play. I’ve loved everything… except for the Patrick Ta eyeshadow duo which is the item I was most excited about. I actually found that the elf cosmetics Fine as Fleck Glitter Eyeshadow was much better and was exactly what I wanted the Patrick Ta one to be. I’m not done with it though, I’m going to play around with the product and make sure I try different techniques when applying it. You can find links to all the Sephora VIB sale items I picked up (and the elf shadows) here.•Kevin Can F**k Himself – Netflix – I love Annie Murphy as Alexis in Schitt’s Creek but Alexis couldn’t be more different than Allison, the character she plays in KCFH. This show is so unique in the way that it is filmed. When we see Kevin’s world, the show is shot like a sitcom with bright lighting and a laugh track but when we’re in Allison’s world (and eventually other’s) the show takes on a much dark tone, literally and figuratively. Allison’s husband is the typical sitcom recipe of oblivious, loser husband with the hot wife who has to do everything for him. It’s easy to sympathize with Allison and feel as frustrated as she feels. The show is only 2 seasons with a total of 16 episodes so it’s a quick watch. The length of the series is perfect and they tied it up beautifully. •Home ReOrg – linen closet, kitchen junk cabinet, laundry room – I went through a cleaning frenzy in November and tackled some pretty junky places in the house including the linen closet, the kitchen junk cabinet, and the laundry room. The kitchen cabinet had the biggest transformation and it’s no longer a junk cabinet, so mission accomplished. Next up is to organized the junk closet and coat closet I’ve been shoving stuff into. It’s a never ending cycle! •Keurig – I bought a Keurig. I know, I’m several years behind but I don’t drink coffee so there was never a need for me to have one. Then I stumbled across the Donut Shop Iced Refreshers. I’m a sucker for Starbucks strawberry acai refresher with lemonade but I have 2 issues with them. First, they are pricey and second, there isn’t a light lemonade option. Making my refreshers at home would solve both of these problems. The only problem is, so far, I do not like the take of the Donut Shop refresher. FLOP! But thankfully my husband likes coffee and has complete switched from his coffee pot to the Keurig. I also use it for hot water for me tea but I need recommendations of non-coffee K-cups to try.•Nobody Wants This – Netflix – I just want it on the record that in 2003 when we were all obsessed with The OC, my friends loved Ryan Atwood, I however, was a Seth Cohen girl, I still am! The only hesitation I had about this series was Kristen Bell and Adam Brody paired together. I really couldn’t see it, but after watching the series I am happy to say, I can see it now. This is the perfect feel good series to add to your watchlist this season. Kristen is a relationship podcaster who cohosts a “pod” with her sister, Morgan (shout out! Great name! Also best character). She meets a recently single rabbi, Adam, and they start dating but things get complicated with Seth’s religion and position in the temple as well as an ex-girlfriend who struggles to move on. This show was so funny and sweet, I can’t wait for season 2.•Yellowstone return – It’s Back!! I didn’t realise that Kevin Costner wasn’t going to be in the last half of this season which was disappointing. It’s been so long since there was a new season, I can barely remember what happened in the last one. This is the final season of this story so I’m interested to see how it all plays out.•Sex Lives of College Girls return – It’s Back x2!!!!! I LOVE this show, and almost anything Mindy Kaling does. I know that Renee Rapp won’t be featured much in this season, which I’m really very upset about, but I’m glad she’s in the start. It’s sophomore year at Essex and we left off with a lot of changes happening. The first episode wraps those up and thankfully resolves Kimberly and Whitney’s falling out quickly. It’s looks like there will be a new girl to replace Laughton so we’ll have to watch the season to see how they all mesh. •Thanksgiving – This was the first year in years that I didn’t make a single dish for dinner, everything was taken care of or claimed so I got to really enjoy myself. I was visiting my parents up in State College, PA so I spent time with them and my brother and sister, we all live in different states so it’s nice when we’re all together. It was a relaxing and very uneventful, in the best way possible, Thanksgiving. Side note: the above picture is from Thanksgiving at my house a few years ago because I forgot to take any pictures this year. •State College ,PA – cheese caves – I was born and bread a Penn State fan because mom and dad are alumni. They live there for now and I won’t turn down a visit to Happy Valley. I was there for 2 weeks and the highlights, besides time with family, include visiting Amish cheese caves, shopping for Penn State merch, and lunch at a cute cafe in downtown State College with mom, called Sowers Harvest Cafe, where I had a delicious chicken caesar sandwich (pictured above). •Wicked – What a great movie! The cinematography was beautiful and top tier. Remember when Harry Styles said something like the great thing about the movie he was filming was, it felt like a movie? Well, this felt like a movie. One of those films that will stand the test of time. Ariana’s excellent acting surprised me. I thought she’d be good, I didn’t think she’d be that good. Cynthia was phenomenal, her voice is so powerful I got goosebumps every time she sang. Jonathan was wonderful and I love seeing him on my screen, always. Baby Nessarose was my favorite. Her little “yea” killed me and brought me back to life. I’ve never seen Wicked, I don’t know the story, so I’m very excited for part 2 next year. •Eras Tour book & The Anthology cd – Shout out to the Target team at State College, PA (not the one downtown) they organized their shit perfectly. My mom and I got up at 5am, hit up Starbucks, and got in line at Target. EVERYONE there was there for Taylor’s book and vinyl or cd. I’m pretty sure nobody would have been waiting in line to go into Target at 6am if it wasn’t for the fact that they were selling these items exclusively. I got both the book and cd no problem and I was very happy. I really hope she releases a cassette tape of The Anthology. I’m really into collecting cassettes right now. That’s it for the month of November. I feel like I had way more favs and flops this month than any other month. I’m sure things won’t be slowing down in December so stay tuned for another post next month. Until then, let me know your thoughts on November’s wrap up. What were some of your favs and flops for the month?
- 2024 Book I Read and Recommend to Book LoversDISCLOSURE: I may link to relevant products, companies or helpful info which may be affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission. I saw Peacock was making a series on this book so I decided this was my next read. The family dynamics in this book are complicate, to say the least. While reading, I ended up almost disliking the mom, kind of. There are a couple twists in this novel but I did guess the big one, what happened to the mom?•Watch Me Disappear by Janelle Brown – This is my first novel by Janelle Brown but I have another of hers on my bookshelf, Pretty Little Things. I was back and forth on this book, wondering what happened to the mom, were the daughter’s visions real, can I trust the father as a narrator? It was a crazy ride and I started to come to the conclusion that maybe the mom did just have an accident hiking in the mountains. I really didn’t know what to think. In the end, I found out what happened, and it was a very interesting final chapter.•101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think by Brianna Weist – Has some really good advice and essays that will stop and make you think a little more.•The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose – well shit! I loved this book, my favorite of the year so far, maybe? I had 4 suspects in mind when it came to who killed the mistress. I went into this book determined to solve the mystery before it was revealed to me. I questioned everything, especially since the narrators were the husband and wife, were they reliable, could I trust they were sharing all the information they were giving me. The twists and turns in this novel were insane; I had 4 suspects in mind but honestly, everyone was a suspect. It could have been anyone but the way it was all tied up nice and neat, was perfect. The ending had a couple of twisted parts that really stuck out to me.•All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers – I am a Crime Junkie so it was finally time that I read Ashley’s first novel. It was really good. I started out reading in Ashley’s voice but eventually I forgot she was the author. This book is dark, especially the ending. It honestly surprised me but Ashley does cover some really dark crimes in her podcast so I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised. I was back and forth on who I thought killed the little girl but honestly I wasn’t ever sure. I really loved how the ending leads you to believe the truth is revealed but then you learn there’s even more to the story in the final chapter.•A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham – This was another rollercoaster of a book. So many questions, so many suspects. Did Chole’s dad actually murder those girls when she was a teenager? Who’s murdering these girls now? Is Chole a reliable narrator considering she’s prescribing herself pills? As character connections are revealed, you begin to put the pieces together and realize the truth. This book was such a good read and had me scrambling to put the puzzle together.•The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell – My first Lisa Jewell book of the year. I think I’ve read 5 of her novels now, they are so good! And this one has a sequel, The Family Remains. I started this book on vacation and got 26 pages in before I took a break. I gave a rundown to my husband, and he was hooked too. When I finished it he asked if he was right about the main mystery, and he was excited to know, he was right. This novel, just like all Lisa Jewel novels, will have you desperately trying to figure out how everything comes together, because it all eventually does. As soon as you think you know the truth of one thing you learn that’s not the case. And because there is a sequel, I feel as if, more will be revealed and leave me with whiplash.•Just the Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica – This story is about a couple who are desperately trying to keep a secret, that the wife may have killed, in self defense, her coworker/friend’s husband. The story is told from the husband’s and friend’s POV. The entire time I was reading this book I was screaming at the characters: what are you doing?! They continued to make bad decision after bad decision, but that’s what made it so enticing. I thought I knew what the twist would be but there were still many pieces missing and i was very surprised with the ending and how it all eventually played out.•The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell -The sequel to The Family Upstairs – This is the sequel to The Family Upstairs and I’m glad I read them so close together because otherwise I might have forgotten some pieces of the story. I think I would say the second book is even better than the first. The entire time I was waiting for something really terrible to happen, I thought I had everything figured out, only to find out that I really had no idea.•You Shouldn’t Have Come Here by Jeneva Rose – This book was… something else! I was NOT expecting the ending that I got and I don’t want to give away too much but it was very good! Jeneva Rose might be up there with Lisa Jewell as one of my favorite story tellers, even if her books are super dark. The twists and turns and the questioning of the narrators is like a rollercoaster in book form. If you are looking for more book recommendations check out The Books I Read in 2023.
- 2023 Books I Read and Recommend for Book LoversDISCLOSURE: I may link to relevant products, companies or helpful info which may be affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission. As an Amazon Associate & other affiliates, I earn from qualifying purchases at no extra charge to you. The views & opinions are my own. For more information please see the disclaimer and privacy policy. It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover – reading this book gave me such conflicting thoughts and emotions. I was pulled in pretty quickly and flew through the novel in one trip. Girls Like Us by Christina Alger – I was hooked pretty early on and it is a quick, easy read. I needed to know who killed the girls and was Nell’s dad the one? I had lots of theories as I read switching back and forth between a couple. The story is complex with a lot of layers and I read it so fast, I know I’ll be thinking about it for days. The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell – I really had no idea what the outcome of this novel was going to be. Usually I will have at least one theory but I couldn’t figure it out. I knew who I was suspicious of: basically everyone except Kim and Sophie. The conclusion was not one I saw coming and did surprise me but not in the way I thought it would. I was thinking there would be a bigger/shocking twist to it all but over a good read. It’s Always The Husband by Michele Campbell – isn’t it though? Lol This book had 2 mysteries to figure out, who was being lead to their death and who was leading them there? This story follows the lives of 3 college friends… or frienemies on 2 timelines, while they are experiencing their first year in college and 20 years later as adults. The first mystery (who was being lead) is answered first and wasn’t too much of a surprise to me, the other mystery is a whole other story. I went back and forth trying to figure out who the murderer was and just when you think you know, you realize you don’t. This story had many twists and turns and really kept me interested till the very end. The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager – ok so upon starting this book I was told there was a big twist and I 100% did not guess it! I thought I knew what was going on (so much so that I went back and read certain parts to verify my theory, and I did… kind of). The twist was not what I would’ve guessed because it’s so different from anything I’ve read before, in fact had I known the twist, I may have said no to the novel but I’m so glad I didn’t. I really enjoyed the story and the setting of Lake Greene (maybe cuz I just vacationed at a lake). This book was a wild ride that kept me hooked! The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – oh my goodness, this book was everything! I was immediately hooked and got through the novel fairly quickly for only reading on week nights mostly. Just like basically everyone in the novel, I was obsessed with Evelyn, wanting to know more about her and how she and Monique were connected. The love stories in this book were beautiful and heartbreaking, which led to me feeling an array of emotions as I read. The story was wonderful and wrapped up perfectly. Such A Quiet Place by Megan Miranda – this was a vacation read for me and I finished it on the plane home. I was immediately certain that Ruby didn’t kill her neighbors and that it was another neighbor living among them that did it, I just wasn’t quite sure who. This is my second novel of Megan’s and I love how she has me constantly questioning and guessing what I think might come next, but I wasn’t able to guess the twists that popped up. I was so sure I knew what was going on, only to realize I wasn’t outsmarting Megan, I was piecing together what she wanted me to piece together, a fantastic author! Not A Happy Family by Shari Lapena – not a happy family is right, holy cow. Nobody in this family seems like a good person and I was guessing who did it up until the very end. I honestly had no idea. And the few theories I did have as I read were all wrong, not even close. This was an easy read and a quick one too. It was a very fun read and I really like that it had me jumping from theory to theory, suspect to suspect, but never the one. This is the second novel from Shari Lapena and I really enjoy her books. The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica – oh wow! Another brilliant page turner from Mary Kubica (Local Woman Missing 5⭐️/5) I don’t want to give too much away so here are a few final thoughts and takeaways: I guessed/caught on to a few things but the big twist, I didn’t get, and looking back I feel like I should have figured it out because I was trying to figure out what was going on with Sadie, spending lots of time thinking about it. The twist was good and had me questioning my theory on who killed Morgan. I found myself getting frustrated with the main character at points, mostly when she seemed so set in her beliefs. It was really easy to get into and read. (Side note: I loved the editors note at the end but don’t read it until you’re finished with the book.) Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – this is my second novel by TJR now and I’m glad I already have Malibu Rising by her because I am a fan! DJatS is about a fictional up and coming band in the 70s. This story depicts their rise and fall. This novel was very different from others I’ve read because it’s written in the style of an interview. You get one story from several points of view. Because the reader is getting direct quotes from the book, it’s not always known if they are telling the truth or just telling the story how they remember it. The different viewpoints really emphasizes how everyone sees things differently, everyone remembers things their own way. I’m excited to start the series based on the novel on Amazon prime.
- My Favorites from October 2024Another great and busy month! There were no flops this month so it’s ALL about my favorites for October, and there were lots. I don’t know how I found time for all of it. Between all the TV shows, the new puppy, and travel, it’s no wonder I’m so tired. The only thing that I didn’t do in October was dress up for Halloween, but there really was no time. Keep reading to find out all the things I loved from this month. That’s it, those are my favorites from October. I cannot believe that there are only 2 months left in 2024. I am looking forward to traveling to State College, PA to see my family for Thanksgiving next month and hopefully snagging one of The Eras Tour books from Target on Black Friday. Stay tuned for next month’s favs and flops post; I’ll let you know there if I get the book and how the trip went. Until then, let me know your favorites from this month in the comments. If there’s anything out there you want me to try and review, comment or reach out to me here.
