A Vision Board is a visual representation of your dream life. It is a compilation of quotes, words, pictures, stickers, etc. that give an idea of the direction you are heading in. You can create one for the month, the year, your 5-year plan, whatever you want. In this post I’m going to be referring to a yearly vision board, although I have done monthly vision boards before, in my Erin Condren Life Planner.
There are plenty of ways to create a vision board, just search on Pinterest and you’ll get ideas for days. One way is to create a Pinterest board titled “Vision Board” and keep it all online. The other way is to create a physical vision board that you can display proudly in an area that you visit daily. I have both. I use a Pinterest board for each new year to start pulling ideas for my physical board. My physical vision board is on a large bulletin board hanging above my desk in my home office. I see it constantly Monday – Friday so I am always reminded what my focus is, what I am working towards.
You know the phrase “out of sight, out of mind”? Well, that really applies to me. I will try to start a habit, like moisturize (specifically my legs) before bed and I will set my Beija Flor™ Elasti-Cream with Collagen and Squalane from Sol de Janeiro on my nightstand so I remember–that is until I decide there is too much crap on my nightstand and I clean it off and put things neatly away in the baskets underneath… out of sight. The same goes for my New Years Resolutions, Bucket List Items, and Goals. I write them down but after awhile, I forget. This is where a vision board comes in handy but it’s important to place it somewhere you can see it every day.
First, and foremost, you need to think about where you want to be a year from now (or whatever timeframe you’re using). Ask yourself these questions:
Next is the fun part, like being back in kindergarten. Gather your materials and put it all together.
Sit down, put on some good music or your favorite movie, and put your vision board together. Have fun with it!
After you’ve created your board, pick a space to display it so you’ll see it often, this way you’re always reminded of your vision and inspired to keep going.
Is it really that easy? Creating a vision board, yes. Getting to your vision, not so much. Now comes the hard work, the part where you take the steps to reach your goals and to put yourself where you want to be by the end of the year. You need to have a plan of how you’re going to get there. Like Taylor Swift sang in Mastermind “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” If you’re not sure how to plan for success check out my How To Be A Goal Getter post for some tips and inspiration.
