The Best New Things I Experienced in April

For the last year or so I’ve been keeping a list of “favs and flops” for each month to review some of the new things I tried, bought, watched, read, etc. Most of the time my list is all favs with 0-1 flops. I guess I just like the new things I experience… or maybe I don’t step outside of my comfort zone enough, I’ll work on that. Anyway, now that I have the habit of writing down my favs and flops I figured I should start sharing.

Every month I will list my new favorite things and where you can find them, in case you want to try them out too. I will also share the new things that flopped, or didn’t work out for me, if there are any. Keep reading to see my favs for April 2023.

My Favorite New Things

  • Elf Glow Wands – I probably shouldn’t even have this on my favs list yet, because I haven’t even tried them out but it was a big deal getting my hands on them. As soon as I saw they were coming out, I knew i needed to try them. I put a calendar reminder on my phone for when they were releasing on Ulta but I was surprised to see them available for purchase a day early, thank goodness I was scrolling through the app and noticed it.
  • Sephora VIB Sale – I LOVE the Sephora VIB sale… obviously. I got the save the date in the mail a couple weeks before and instantly began my preparations. I started making note of all the products I was out of or almost out of, I swiped through my Loves list to pick out a few things I really wanted, and I watched YouTube for recommendations from some of my favorite youtubers. I got a few things but I haven’t tried everything yet. The one thing I have tried and love is the Rare Beauty Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter. It is as beautify as everyone says it is! Check out my Reel to see it in action.
  • Target Workout Outfits – I should add these to my Favorite Home Workout items because these ribbed workout sets are so cute and functional. I got them in 4 colors (yellow, pink, gray, and blue). They aren’t sold as a set but as separate pieces, a high neck bra and high-rise seamless bike shorts. Each piece is about $20 and I recently saw a few new colors were added.
  • Shrinking on Apple TV – I will give any show with Harrison Ford in it a try and I’m so glad I did. This show is so so so good! My husband and I actually finished it in 2-3 days and then re-watched it. It’s one of those rare shows where I like every single character. The show is about this therapist, Jimmy (Jason Segal), whose wife recently passed and he’s not been handling it well. We watch as he tries to turn his life around, get closer to his daughter, and be a better therapist for his patients and coworkers. Check out the trailer and watch it on Apple TV, I highly recommend.
  • Vanderpump Rules on Peacock- Let me say this first: this is my first time watching this show. The whole Scandoval thing was allll I kept hearing about so I figured I might as well see what all the fuss is about. I’m on season 5 so I’m still seasons away from catching up. My initial thoughts are: I like Lisa… everyone else sucks a little but I am definitely entertained.
  • Solo Dinner Date – I took myself to out to dinner this month, one Friday night, while my husband got oysters with a friend (I don’t do seafood). It was a really nice day out so I planned to find a place with an outdoor seating area and I brought my MacBook with me to do some writing. It was such a nice quiet time with myself. I had a couple drinks, ordered some food, and got some work done. It’s important to take care of your self and that includes taking yourself out to dinner. I will say my solo date didn’t end so solo; at the end of the meal, my husband stopped by after his dinner to have a drink with me. It was a nice time though, and I need to do it more often.
  • Michelob Ultra Seltzers – Speaking of drinks, I was having wings at one of my favorite local restaurants, Friends, when they brought me a Cucumber Lime Michelob Ultra Seltzer. I am really into cucumber flavor in drinks right now and I love lime so I was immediately intrigued. Before trying, I took a look at the nutrition facts because that will always be an indicator if it will become a favorite beverage. These seltzers have 0 sugar and 80 calories, my intrigue increased. My final test: taste and it passed with flying colors. Since then I have tried the other 3 flavors that come in the Signature Collection pack (Grapefruit Melon, Spicy Pineapple, and Watermelon Strawberry) and they are delish as well. 10/10
  • Deuxmoi Anon Pls Book – If you don’t follow Deuxmoi on Instagram, I highly recommend it, if you enjoy celebrity gossip. They post the best stuff on their story and it’s a guilty pleasure of mine to chill on the couch, or in bed, and read celebrity secrets. Anon Pls. is a fiction novel loosely based on some of the gossip that has been shared about celebs. I haven’t read it yet but I thought I’d be a great beach read for this summer.
  • Both Books I’m Reading – I like reading both a fiction and non-fiction book simultaneously so I have an option depending on the mood I’m in. Right now I am reading It’s Always The Husband by Michelle Campbell, a novel that has been compared to Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. I am almost half way through and I am enjoying it so far. My non-fiction read is 101 Essays That Will Change The Way You Think by Brianna Wiest. I love the short essays that do really make me stop and think. I’ll probably be reading my non-fiction pick for anther month or so but my fiction novel will definitely be finished by May so it may make the list again and I’ll let you know my final thoughts.
  • Taylor Swift Eras Tour – I saved the best for last. I’m really not sure how to convey the amazing experience that was The Eras Tour. It was one of the best days of my life, a core memory for sure. My husband got me the tickets for Christmas to Night 1 in Atlanta, Ga. I dressed for the Reputation Era because it is my favorite album of hers (when Taylor’s Version comes out I will be unreachable for a solid week). I screamed/sang to every single song along with her. Every. Single. Girl/Woman there was so nice and encouraging. The energy in that stadium was on another level. It was the best concert I’ve ever been to and I cannot wait to see her again.

I didn’t have any flops in April, that I can think of, but I will update this post if I remember something.

What are some new things you tried last month? Let me know in the comments what you recommend trying… or staying far away from. I will update the post with my thoughts on Anon Pls. once I read it, the new makeup I bought once I’ve tried it, and Vanderpump Rules once I catch up.
